Northrise Farms

Northrise Farms Projects ProgressFive years ago, what is now called Northrise farms was an anthill, brush, and grass filled stretch of land that the Zambian government had granted to Northrise University upon its application for land to build a tertiary learning institute. Slowly but surely things have began to take shape with the plans that have been laid out gradually becoming a reality.

The first notable achievement was the successful completion of the farm manager’s house on the land. However, at the same time that the construction of the house was taking place, leveling of anthills and clearing of the brush in preparation for cultivation was also in progress. Bananas were then planted on the land and now we have started reaping the fine produce. The next few weeks will see an introduction of the Northrise bananas on the Ndola market.

The 25th of May was another great milestone in the history of Northrise Farms. For six delicate weeks, Mr. Bob Chiwetu who is the farm manager, and his farm crew oversaw the rearing of 1000 broiler birds. This was the first poultry initiative at the farm. Finally, by the given date, the birds were ready for the market with an unusually outstanding weight compared to the usual weight of chickens on the Ndola market.

A chicken abattoir, which will be used to dress the chickens raised at the farm, is next in line. The building is in its final stages with its cold rooms already up and running, and the painting of the walls and ceiling is almost complete. Also, work on the business building is underway with the foundation already complete, while a dorm that can house 56 students has been built and caters for the housing needs of students who come out of town.
